You stood at the edge of the water, the waves dying at your feet. It was foggy, thick enough to dip to the water surface here and there. Odd that you were barefoot and wearing only a white summer dress I had never seen before, and I was aware of the cold and wearing a long wool overcoat.
I sat behind you on a washed up log. I stared at your back, long black hair falling around your shoulders, nudged by the breeze now and again. The sight of you in places like this always stirred something inside of me, this was no different. I stood and drank you in, head to toe.........beautiful woman of contrast. Black hair and eyes....white dress........you were a vision.
Many can go a lifetime without ever experiencing this deep seated tug of knowing and loving someone for thousands of years. You turned slightly, looking at me from over your shoulder. You smiled and wrinkled your nose....in a moment, I was set adrift across a vast, glowing sea of emotion........only you could ever do that.
"It won't always be like this, ya know"......you said, turning back to the restless water.
I did not reply aloud because I knew what you meant to say, and I knew you were wrong. ...."yes it will...." I whispered to myself.
I closed the gap between us, stopping a few inches from you. I hovered there without touching you, the light flowery scent of your hair drugging me into more silence. I opened my coat and stepped forward, wrapping it around you and buried my face in the nape of your neck. You tilted your head to mine and exhaled.
A seal surfaced a few feet out, glimpsing us before submerging again.
"..I have never come back""......you lilted.
"..hhhmm?..."
"..Since we were here, I have never come back.." you answered with more presence.
I didn't know how to answer, my face still buried in your silk.
The scene splintered into fragments of other memories as I floated to the surface of my latest waking reality.
